Lost Dog Cafe: Creative Twist, Easy Prices
Cuisine: American
All who wonder are not lost, especially if they end up at the Lost Dog Cafe. With its warm, welcoming feeling and a tall wall of windows that overlook Cayuga Street, it is easy to find oneself eating at the Lost Dog. And eating here often. I did. When I lived and worked downtown I would eat here regularly, it was my staple restaurant because the food was good and the prices fair. I would always get the Vodka Rigatoni, the Lost Dog's signature dish, with shrimp - what a dish. Most of the food here is simple in essence, but each dish has a creative twist, somewhere, that makes the Lost Dog's way of preparing it truly special. Simple yet creative food and fair prices is almost always a recipe for success and the Lost Dog is full most nights - good places usually are.

The Food: 4 out of 5
  • Chicken Lemongrass Fried Dumplings is a real gem, licorice overtones, crispy outside with a treat-like inside; honey-hoison sauce completes the canopy of flavors.
  • $1.50 Side Salad with an entree, crisp romaine, spinch, red onions, cukes and a healthy dose of garbanzo beans.
  • Brie & Berry Chicken my fork kept going to my companions dish, this visual delight is a medley of tastes - baby spnich, brie cheese, toasted walnuts and a raspberry sauce combine to infuse the mashed potatoes with flavor.
  • Rigatoni ala Vodka garlic and tomatoes flamed in Vodka with cream, toped with grated cheese is decadent and one of our favorite dishes in Ithaca. Adding plump juicy shrimp and cayenne pepper is just good common sense.

The Experience: 5 out of 5
  • Murals of Moons, Stars and of course the "Lost Dog" set the crunchy, laid back Ithaca tone
  • Cozy bar is perfect for grabbing a bite and drink
  • Upstairs lounge has plenty of couches and makes waiting for a table stress free
  • The wait-staff are happy and attentive, they have a sweet gig at a sweet place and it shows

The Price: $$ out of 5
  • Apps range from $5 - $7, entrees from $12 to $18
  • $1.50: buys a side salad (pictured above) with an entree - a great deal

The Fried Chicken Search: We plan on returning to the Lost Dog as we are searching for a joint that serves up a mean Fried Chicken - could it be the Lost Dog? Tune in again in a few weeks for an update. If you know of place that serves good fried chicken, drop us a note.
